Two people were killed Wednesday afternoon when an 18-wheeler careened off the Woodall Rogers Freeway onramp onto Interstate 35 East and fell atop a passing car. The car was going east on Continental Avenue at about 3 p.m., police said. Police said they believe the truck was taking a curve when its load shifted, causing it to flip over the freeway guardrail onto a vehicle on the street below, Sgt. Gil Cerda said. Texas researchers are working on changes after finding highway guardrails that are designed to keep drivers safe may actually be a hazard in some cases.
